What is liposuction?

What happens when I undergo a liposuction procedure?

Dr. Madni may perform liposuction under a general or local anesthetic, depending on the patient and the extent of their surgery. Liposuction could last 1-3 hours, according to how much fat needs extracting.

Dr. Madni inserts a cannula (a tube that frees and removes the unwanted fat) through a small incision in your skin. He may use  power-assisted liposuction (PAL), an advanced form of fat removal that produces smooth results with less trauma. 

Dr. Madni also performs high-definition etching, a liposuction technique which can highlight the surrounding muscle.

After completing your liposuction, he applies padding and a compression bandage over the treatment area. You should rest for a few days and keep your bandages on.

You’ll initially have some bruising, discomfort, and tenderness, but don’t remove the compression bandages until Dr. Madni says you can.

How soon will I see results after liposuction?

You should notice an immediate difference after liposuction and further gradual improvements in your body’s shape as you heal. However, postoperative swelling and skin shrinkage can take up to six months following liposuction.
