Rhinoplasty Q & A

What is rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is surgery that reshapes your nose, so it’s commonly known as a nose job. It is performed for medical or aesthetic purposes. Rhinoplasty can correct breathing problems, make your nose more aesthetically pleasing, or both. With his skill in rhinoplasty, Dr. Madni can correct issues such as:

  • A hooked nose
  • Large or upturned nostrils
  • Large or small nose
  • Wide or narrow nose
  • Bumps or dips
  • An enlarged or swollen nose tip
  • Drooping or upturned nose
  • Nasal asymmetry

Rhinoplasty can correct problems like a deviated septum, where the cartilage dividing your nasal passages is misaligned, restricting breathing through one nostril.

Is rhinoplasty a good choice for me?

During an evaluation, Dr. Madni discusses what you hope to achieve from rhinoplasty surgery to ensure your expectations are realistic. He shows you what the results are likely to be after examining and measuring your face.

Rhinoplasty is one of the most commonly performed surgeries. It is a safe procedure, but all operations have risks. Dr. Madni can answer your questions and help you make the best decision.

What happens when I have a rhinoplasty?

Dr. Madni administers a general anesthetic before making a singular incision along your columella — the bridge between your nostrils — to gain access to the underlying tissues. He then reshapes your nose’s bone and cartilage, removing the excess if your goals include achieving a less prominent nose.

Reshaping may also involve taking nasal cartilage from one area and grafting it where needed. This graft usually comes from your nasal septal cartilage, but cartilage from your ear or ribs also works. After completing the reshaping, Dr. Madni replaces the skin and seals the incisions.

Dr. Madni fits nose splints and gauze packing to keep your nose in the desired shape while it heals. The post-surgical swelling and bruising should disappear within a few weeks.

You should notice gradual changes in your nose’s appearance over time, but it can take up to 12 months to see the finished outcome of your rhinoplasty surgery.
